One of the classes I am teaching at the Irvine, CA CREATE Art Retreat is Photo Paintings, A Slice of Life. Using watercolor and a section of your favorite photograph, I enjoy painting portraits, animals or landscape miniatures based on what is contained in the photograph.
Here I am with my Jack Russell Terrier, Mischa after hiking up Tumalo Mountain near my home, Bend, Oregon. I brought my paints, watercolor journal and camera. I took a self-portrait photo before hiking back to my studio to finish the photo painting.
Are you intimidated by drawing people? Don’t worry; the photo does the hard part for you!

This is great! It's perfect! What do you mean the photo does the work?
I would be tickled pink if I could do this.
La Table - the photo does the hard part. You cut out what is hard to paint (like faces, bodies...) then paint around it incorporating the photo into the painting. Hard to explain I think but really fun!
Thanks for the comment!
Love this..It was hard to tell that small if you did cut and paste or painted it. I notice you've done this before. :)Great idea for journaling.
