Cloth, Paper, Scissors Magazine Giveaway!

Win this magazine - read below
I am honored and thrilled that the editors of my favorite magazine, Cloth, Paper, Scissors, picked my blog for their New Magazine Blog Tour.   I will be reviewing their magazines and offering free magazines to a few lucky Art in my Heart Blog readers starting with GIFTS, their first annual holiday issue.  This magazine is super-sized at 148 pages and can be found at Barnes & Noble for $14.99.  Or you can participate in my blog giveaway and perhaps win a free copy!
Here is what I need from you….
I have never done a blog giveaway before so I am looking for great ideas on how to do this.  Have you ever done a giveaway or participated in one?  What works and what is fun?  Anyone that comments will be entered into my CPS magazine giveaway.
I have my cup of coffee and a fire lit in the fireplace.  It just started snowing outside.  I am off to read through GIFTS and will get back to you soon!

When I did this at my blog I allowed only one chance per person,
assigned a number to the person and then put the number on paper, and into a box. On the day of the drawing I picked a winner.

Ive done blog giveaways (and am also featured twice in CPS Gifts teeeheee). Ive noticed that most people make you follow their blog for extra entries, I don't like this because I want people to follow my blog because they're interested in it, know what I mean?
So I also only give them one chance to enter and ask them to say what they would do or make with what they win or what they're hoping to learn. Then I use random org to pick the winning number. Good luck on your first giveaway!!!!

Thanks Catherine for the thought on allowing only one chance per person. Good idea. And Serena, I agree - I want people to follow my blog because they find it interesting and not force to. I like your idea too about saying something. What do you mean by a random org???

I've participated in several, they use a random number generator to pick winners, go to http://www.graphpad.com/quickcalcs/randomN1.cfm , pick 'one column' and the type in total number of entries (posts). The left column will be the winning numbers in order (1,2,3,etc) and the original post number will be in the second column. Match them up. (It's way easier to do than to explain). I can explain further if you need it. Thanks for putting up the giveaway! Good luck on your blog, very nice artworks!

Hi! I just stumbled across your blog. I have done giveaways and it can be as technical as you want it to be. I see most people just put names in a bowl and draw one out (our have their cat pick a name etc...). I would LOVE to be considered because I live in Ireland and it's hard to find copies here!!! I will be doing a giveaway in the New Year on my felting blog...

I've participated as well, and have seen that many use Random Number Generator to select a winner after numbering the comments. I like the ones that ask for interaction. A recent one asked entrants to complete a sentence. Others ask an opinion question, or gather other info such as how many works-in-progress do you have, and such. It's fun to read the responses. Some thoughts anyway.

I also like the giveaways that you get extra entries with a blog entry on their blog about your blog (with a link included), a twitter post about your blog and giveway and/or becoming a fan on your blog on facebook (if you have a fan page). This greatly increased your exposure to your blog.

Congratulations on being selected for the giveaways!

Random.org is a website you can use to pick a random winner. If you have 233 entries then you put the number 1 for minimum and 233 for maximum and it spits out a number for you. It makes selecting someone truely random!

I like it when you need to answer a question for a blog giveaway because I enjoy reading peoples responses. . .questions such as "What is your favorite sketchbook?" or "What type of art do you enjoy making?" or "What is your favorite snack?"

Oh Wow! These are all good ideas. How long do you usually let people comment? A day? A week? I guess it is my choice but a day seems too short.

I've just started blogging and have not done a giveaway yet, but I love the idea and I love Serena's comment about asking participants what they would do with their prize. What a fun way to share the excitement. I don't have a brilliant suggestion for you, but I wish you the best and am looking forward to following you!

Great blog, I'd love to be considered for the gifts magazine. I've done give aways, and it's fun hearing from people. I usually allow about 5-6 days

I'm not interested in the magazine but think it's fun with giveaways to have a question to answer. I enjoy reading the answers people give.

Freebird, do you not want it because you already have it, because it is a wonderful magazine. Thanks Susan & Jenny!

I have done giveaway and I publicised it on several venues like Handmadeology to get good participation. I also took a photo of the giveaway and got it accepted on Craftgawker. All of these helped to get about 100 people to visit my blog within a week's period. I asked all of them to leave a comment. Some of them on their own became a FB fan, Etsy favorites etc. I also used random.org to select the winner.

I've never done a giveaway so I can't help with ideas, although I think Serena is brilliant - people should follow because they want to. I haven't won a giveaway yet (it would be lovely to win this one!), but I always share links to giveaways and will do so with yours as well.

I have never done a giveaway but I have participated in a few.Like other people's comments here,I like it when the entrants have to answer a question since it is interesting to read all the comments.
The best drawing that I have seen was with Jude Hill, when she put all the names of the entries in a hat and drew out a name- this was done as a video post on her blog. It was alot of fun- even though it was not my name drawn!!!

HI! I've done giveaways and usually I ask for a comment about what I'm giving away, then give extra entries if they follow my blog, follow on facebook, follow on twitter, etc. Then use random.org (super easy) to generate a number and count through the entries until you get to that number. Be sure to ask people to leave separate entries for each extra task they do.

Congrats Jacqueline! I've done giveaways in the past... I love when people answer a question or when they share the giveaway on facebook, twitter or their blog for extra entry chances. Good luck with your contest!

Let me know if you need help with a random number generator. Sounds like lots of people think you should ask a question to be answered and/or have people help you generate exposure through twitter, facebook or other blogs. All good ideas!

Oops, forgot to answer the question in my previous post. I have never made a specific project from the magazine, but find I am inspired by the beautiful artwork and use it as a creative launch pad.
