A scruffy visitor to my garden. I am off to the book store to get a book about butterflies because I want to attract more! Does anyone know what kind it is? I may have to paint him.
That's a Monarch Butterfly! I have a returning pair(s) who show up and dance for me in the sunlight of my front yard. My Mom loved them, and since she's gone now, I imagine one of them is Mom, checking in, just saying hi!

What a sweet thought! Then this must be my dad checking up on me. I was wondering when he would show up. I miss him!
I thought it was a Swallowtail. But i just PAINT butterflies NOT id them!

Yup, it is a swallowtail. I have a tattoo of the very same type on the small of my back...love your blog, btw. Your watercolors are gorgeous!
