New painting now available for purchase.  Classical, painted by Jacqueline Newbold.  Classical is a watercolor painting on rice paper.  I used a wax resist to create layers of color creating an unique effect.  This painting is framed in a wooden frame.  The outside dimensions are 11″ x 17″.

3D ART- Going off the Page!

For those of you who are lucky enough to have the Nov/Dec 2008 issue of Cloth, Paper Scissors,  check out the fabulous article written by Sue Pettetier on making Sparkling Snowmen.  She gives great instructions on how to make these adorable little snowmen using vintage bottles.  Or even better - I just found out that she has just made this fun project available online!

Last night with my daughters, friends and a little bit of wine, we created a whole family of vintage bottle snowmen.

Lots of fun, lots of glitter and laughter!

Where did my wine go?

Even my husband came in to see what we were doing.  He did not quite "get it" that we were making snowmen so he make a Santa head and put it on his version of a snowman's body which was a bottle filled with watered down wine.  Honestly! MEN!

New Article for the Cloth, Paper Scissors Magazine

The box is packed and ready to ship.  Sample postcards are carefully wrapped and example art supplies are in their separate zip-locked baggie.  I even put in some Hershey's kisses for the editors.  My article, Painted Postcards is ready to go and will be published in the Cloth, Paper Scissors magazine - March/April 2013 issue.  It took longer than expected to create all the samples required for the article but it was so much fun to do.  I hope you will read the article when it is published next year!

Hurricane Sandy

Dear artists and friends,
My heartfelt thoughts go out to all the folks affected by Hurricane Sandy, artists and beyond.  The devastation that we are receiving on the news is incredible!  We have lived through devastating hurricanes doing damage to the areas we love - the tropics, New Orleans, and now the east coast.  Watching the news and seeing the photos of the damage is unbelievable.  I wonder where the newly homeless go and how do they eat.  How does one clean up such all the debris, broken bits, sand and toxic waste?

I am learning new things about my iphone!   I have finally figured out how to add photos quickly to my blog soooo....... here are some photos from my watercolor Rainbow Studies & Slice of Life Classes that I taught in August.  So many wonderful, fun and creative artists!  So many messy, beautiful palettes of paint, lusciously painted pears and happy smiles!

The Elements of Design - Upcoming Class at TAW, Bend, OR

What kind of painter are you? Are you a value painter or a shape maker? Do you love putting lines or texture in your paintings? This class explores the elements of design: value, color, shapes, pattern, texture and shape. We will paint a series of paintings with each painting focusing on one of these elements. All levels welcome.

From Photo to Painting

Doing a detailed value sketch is a great way to start a the painting process.  It is the time to can work out any design problems, simplify and study the value patterns.  Here is one of the little paintings that I did from my recent trip to Italy.  The value sketch and watercolor painting were done in my little moleskin watercolor journal:

Happy to Announce...

My painting, Staying Afloat, was accepted into the Watercolor Society of Oregon’s 47^th Annual Transparent Watercolor Show.  The juror, Chris Van Winkle, chose 80 paintings from 268 entries.  The show opening will be held at the Resort at the Mountain, Welches, OR on Oct. 6 and the paintings will be on display until Oct. 26, 2012.  

The inspiration for Staying Afloat came from a photo I took of a tree draped with lobster buoys on the quaint island of Isle au Haut, Maine.  The island, which is part of Acadia National Park, is only accessible by boat.  The buoy tree is located near the Town Landing where the ferryboat docks and is a colorful, welcoming site.  The buoy tree is much like the shoe trees that have spread along Oregon’s highways and beyond but I think the lobster buoys are more lively and charming than the shoes and thought it would be a fun subject to paint.
